I’ve been thinking about making this pillowcase for a long while now (a lot of my posts start like that I know, but it takes me a loooong time from coming up with an idea to actually executing it).  It’s wrong in many ways: the size is off, the pocket is a little too small, there are too many pattern pieces, and for some reason my camera refused to focus on it.  But at least the idea is out of my head finally. I wanted to make a small pillowcase with a patchwork pocket–my scraps box is literally overflowing–and a little friend to go in it. I made it in linen because linen pillowcases are awesome and because little heads seem to sweat a lot more then big ones, but if I sell these, which is the plan, they would be too expensive in linen. So maybe I’ll do some simple embroidered linen ones and do the pocket pillowcases in cotton.  The pillow is about 15″ by 7″ (or something like that). I like to use these little ones for my kids. They fit nicely in a crib and my daughter, who is in a bed, likes to have a big one and a little one. Does anyone else use these? Should I not make little ones and just make the standard size? I need your insight here. Go all out and tell me what you think of this. Good or bad, it’s incredibly helpful.

I am still stuck on a name for the bag in the last post. I’m leaning towards “the finder’s keeper,” which 2 people suggested or the much simpler “the little bag.” I’m going to visit my family for 10 days, so while I’m internetless in the woods I’ll think it over. Thank you for all your suggestions: I think I might start calling my purse my “cache stash” because it’s so awesome.

It’s Handmade Holidays all month long at Sew Mama Sew (if you didn’t know already).  They, so kindly, asked me to be on their board and come up with a few ideas for their amazing blog.  After crossing out many bad ideas, I came up with these little plush ornaments. I started this digger almost a year ago (it’s nice to have a record of the things you make, but it’s not so nice to see just how long you can procrastinate) and it should be in the shop later today.  It’s funny how my tastes have changed in a year. I wanted to rip up all the patchwork and start again, but then it would have sat around another year I’m sure.  A lot of the scraps came from my first big sewing project (and my first big post). I think it’s time I cleaned out my scrap box and made a quilt. Or an army of patchwork diggers.

I’ve been gone for a little longer than I expected. Right after I wrote that last post, my computer died (maybe my computer reads my blog). So I learned to live without internet for a while, which was probably a good thing. My handy dandy husband wrassled up a computer for me to work on and I’m figuring out all new ways to do all the old things.  While I was away from the internets, we took a fantastic trip to a foreign land.  I’ll be back tomorrow to tell a bit about it, but now I’m going to bed because right when we got back I got the flu. ugh.

This is a little tug boat I’m working on. Pattern making is the pits: sew, sew, sew, rip, rip, rip. The top bits are done, but the actually boat needs some more tiny changes. I haven’t been much for the plush lately, but I think I’m much more suited to it than making clothes. It’s challenging, but still quick, which is great when you have to remake the same toy over and over again. I’m very happy with the piping, but somehow the plaids almost match when I didn’t want them to match at all. If my son would start napping again this would be done in no time, but now who knows.
