kcwc: day three

September 22nd, 2010

Sorry, little behind schedule today because I went out with my wonderful husband to celebrate our anniversary last night, but I’m up an caffeinated now, and the winners of the big butt baby pants and the toddler back pack patterns have been announced!

Sometimes you don’t need anything fancy you just need a plain old pair of pants. These are made with some nice, heavy wide wale corduroy and I used the same pattern as these shorts I made, only longer. Of course they are too long and too big all over really, but the boy grows like a weed, so they might fit at the end of the winter. Still, he loves them (hence all the wrinkles) and now says gray is his favorite color–wonder who he got that from?

For today’s giveaway Liesl from Oliver + S has kindly offered their new Music Box Jumper pattern! I think everyone who sews children’s clothes is crazy for Oliver + S patterns. And how could you not be? They are beautifully designed, well written, and come with their own paper doll!  The purl bee recently showed off a version of the Music Box Jumper in corduroy (liberty corduroy!) and it couldn’t be more perfect.

To enter the giveaway today, I’d love it if you tell us something about an Oliver + S project you’ve worked on or a story you have about working with patterns or even what has caught your eye in the flickr group so far. Good Luck!

  2. I LOVE those cords…so PERFECT…I have sewn a couple of the Oliver + S patterns and they are all so wonderful. I am excited to see there new ones and hoepully get my hands on them soon. My fav pattern of theirs is the ice cream social dress!

  3. Amy says:

This is such a cute pattern! I have sewn lots of their patterns and besides getting a very professional looking garment I always learn so much! My favorite so far has been the jump rope dress but I just got the school picture pattern and can’t wait to try it out!

  4. Sarah says:

I haven’t made any of her patterns yet, but I think I am finally ready to start. I’ve made some other things and can follow a pattern much better. I’ve loved this dress since I saw it on Tsia.

  5. Fiona says:

Firstly love those grey cords!! I’m still a bit of a novice when it comes to reading patterns (getting better thanks to KCWC) but I found the Oliver + S LAZY DAYS SKIRT super easy and have consequently wipped up a few variations for my daugher over the last year.

Can you enter even if you aren’t participating this week? I just don’t have my act together enough around here to be sewing right now! The only Oliver+S pattern I’ve used is their free Lazy Days skirt but it is great (I’ve made it multiple times). Hopefully, once I get my new baby sleeping, I’ll get to try some of their others. Oh, and by the way, I love the picture (logo?) you made for the challenge with the map in the background…I miss the midwest! :)

  7. Natasha says:

I wish I had the experience of doing an Oliver+S pattern. I love the classic design of all the patterns they carry. It makes them seem a little easier to accomplish as I am bad with patterns in general. I want to make something in a corduroy from Oliver+S for the fall. I am loving the new picture day pattern… WITH POCKETS!!!… oh so cute on both my girls. Not to mention versatile in any wardrobe.

  8. Kari E says:

I have been quietly admiring the Oliver + S patterns for a few years now. Perhaps this giveaway will provide the opportunity to try one!?!?

  9. I have never tried the O&S Pathans, but I really want to.

  10. beth lehman says:

the quality of these patterns and the perfectness of the end result have made me long for a try for some time! hope i win!!!

  11. Carolyn says:

I love the O&S patterns! I tried the sail boat pants when I was just starting to sew. The pants turned out great and I was amazed that I made them myself. I’ve learned so much sewing from these patterns! This week I’m working on a pair of full length sail boat pants in corduroy.

  12. Hillary says:

I love the Lazy Days Skirt (I’ve made a couple) and the Popover Dress. I have a couple of her beautiful patterns as well (sailboat top + skirt and teaparty sundress) but haven’t tackled them yet.

  13. Heather J. says:

I just ordered my first Oliver + S pattern, though I’ve been eyeing them forever. It’s the Sandbox Pants, for my son, who (I’m sure) thinks that I only ever sew for his sister. I love that Liesl has thought of the boys, too!

  14. Katrina h says:

I haven’t tried one yet but would love to! The green reversible jumper in the flickr group is super cute!

  15. K says:

Love mon ami’s Ice Cream Social tunic!

  16. Eva says:

neato :) i’ve used the oliver + s skirt pattern as reference for my daughter’s skirt before :)

  17. Kristy says:

I’m pretty new to sewing so I haven’t worked on any of these patterns but I’ve been very successful with the Big Butt Baby Pants Pattern on the Made By Rae website. I’m going to head over to the Oliver + S website though and find some more cute boy patterns!

  18. Hayley L. says:

Love, love, love Oliver + S patterns. Have not had the guts to try one out myself.

Everything is looking so great in the Flickr pool…I’ve seen so many cute versions of the IndieTute peasant dress/shirt…think that might be next on the list!

Thanks for the chance : )

  19. Peta says:

I absolutely adore Oliver and S patterns and have learnt so much from using them. The instructions are so clear and concise while the designs are full of gorgeous little details making the end result look professional. They are so rewarding to make.

  20. vicki says:

Cute pattern! I haven’t used O & S patterns yet–some of my fave kids patterns are from Ottobre design.

  21. Kylie says:

I have never used an Oliver+S pattern (can’t afford them), but I love to look at their site and just drool over everything. It would be great to finally try one out!

  22. Louise says:

I’d love to use an O&S pattern and that one would be perfect for both my girls.

  23. katie says:

I’ve used the free downloads. I feel like I’ve learned a lot already and look forward to trying more of their patterns. I really appreciate the o+s blog, flickr and forums.

  24. Annwen says:

I have never worked with an Oliver+S pattern before but would LOOOOOOVE to try one :) I have heard such great things about them and seen some amazing items created with them. I have recently sourced a store local to me in Australia that sells them so I plan to get down there this week and take a look! I have used lots of patterns from online and out of books but in truth, a lot of my clothes for babe sewing has come from improvisation at this point. All very simple pieces though and it’s time to branch out with the use of some good quality patterns!

  25. After many years of laying dormant my passion for sewing has been re-awakened. My form of a mid-life crisis? So just to make sure I commit to some projects I have started a blog. I would love to concentrate on little girls dresses and found your site very early on in my search for patterns. They are all very refreshing and I love the drawings. Thanks for the inspiration!
