kcwc: day seven

September 26th, 2010

I’m have to apologize for the unfinished (can’t find the buttons), wrinkled (I can’t find my iron either) shirt and the model’s obviously slept in braids. It’s Sunday morning and we are all a bit lazy.

I wanted to make this shirt (from Happy Homemade vol.2 again) because I remembered I had picked up some awesome vintage trim that would be perfect for the little tab in the middle. So I bought the pretty blue corduroy and sewed the shirt up, then tore my studio up trying to find the trim (maybe the shirt has the power to hide things). I gave up, decided I must have given it away and used an old plaid shirt instead.  Last night I started on an old crochet project and there in my bag full of yarn was the ribbon.

I still haven’t found the buttons, but maybe they are hiding with the iron in the refridgerator.

Today is the last day of the kids clothes week challenge and I hope you had a good time. The flickr group is full of amazing things, I’ve found some new and fantastic blogs and you’ve pointed me to some new children’s pattern designers. Thank you so much for playing along!

The last giveaway is from one of my favorite bloggers, Kayanna from junecraft. She has kindly offered a $20 dollar gift certificate for her etsy shop to the winner! She makes beautiful prints, calendars, funny little plush, tote bags and they are all modern and stylish and cute as all get out.

To enter tell us what you thought of the week (whether you participated or not), or what you like best from the junecraft shop, or how you take your coffee. Good luck!

The winner is

#54: Claire from Moth and Sparrow!

Congratulations!

I plan to try to finish up my sewing next week. And I stopped drinking coffee this week in hopes that my 6 month old wunderkind will start to sleep more, longer, better.

  2. Sarah says:

What a fun week!! Thanks for encouraging a little munchkin sewing!

  3. Megan says:

The “Norman Goes for a Drive” print is AMAZING!

  4. vicki says:

Cute shirt! I only made 2 kids’ items but it was fun! I’m going to keep going and gradually get through the pile of things I had wanted to make. I’d love to participate another time, I’ll be following your blog so hopefully I’ll have more notice next time!

  5. Terri says:

I loved this week. I am inspired and motivated to follow suit. Thanks so much for putting this together. And shirt is too cute as is.
I love the Olliphant plush from junecraft.

  6. karen says:

The last time my iron went missing, it turned out it had run off with my son to start a new life as a road grader / steamboat. DUH.

Love the shirt. Whenever I make anything with a placket, the bottom of the placket is a puckered embarrassment; perhaps a tab thingy like you have would be a solution.

I sneak my husband’s coffee- with cream and honey. mmm… I love the little plush toys, the totes and the medallions.

  8. jen says:

I did not “officially” participate in the kcwc, but I have had a very productive week of working on finishing up several projects for my little daughter. Thanks for all of the inspiration this week!

I love the plush elephant. My daughter’s room/theme is elephants and they are everywhere in our house. I cannot seem to get enough of them. But “Norman goes for a drive” is pretty darn cute too!

  9. Lise says:

I love the shirt! The lost trim is beautiful, too–and what a clever way to store it!

  10. Jamie says:

I really enjoyed this last week of sewing. I found a new talent that I didn’t know I had and a new use for my sewing machine. Thank you for this week and I can’t wait for the next one.

  11. Ella says:

i got so excited about kcwc that i started days early. during the actual week i got caught up perusing, gathering ideas, pulling fabrics and now i have a nice line up of clothes to sew in the next weeks! thanks for hosting and inspiring.

  12. Blythe says:

Ooooooohhhhh I adore junecraft’s cheeky bird print!

  13. Lisa says:

Well I love the calendar you posted above and the red medallion print too (love that she suggests an IKEA Ribba frame – love those.) But I think my favorite is the plush guitar – gorgeous! These japanese sewing books are so awesome but I do not think I have the sewing experience to try them yet.

  14. Erin says:

I really enjoyed peeking over your shoulder this week…love the idea of a week dedicated to getting all those “I have to try that sometime” things done. Good job!

  15. Holly says:

Seriously? How I take my coffee? All black, baby. Strong and black in large quantities–what else fuels all the crafting in the wee hours?

  16. Holly says:

Wait, I also meant to tell you how much I love this shirt. Love the color and style and the wrinkles. Very laissez-faire.

  17. Susanne says:

Wonderful challenge week! I only slacked off on one day, but then again, I exceeded my hour on all the other days (just ask hubby), so I think that makes up for it :-)

  18. Thea - mon ami says:

I am so inspired by your Japanese craft book clothes! Ive been too intimidated to try any but maybe it is time to try it out.

This week has gone in waves for me of productive days and days too busy for sewing. But I am still quite pleased with what I was able to accomplish. And of course I love getting to look through the amazing pool of photos on flickr and discover new blogs.

Thanks so much for organizing everything, again, Meg.
    Xoox

  19. Kimberly says:

Bummer about the trim, but I like the plaid as well! What a great giveaway; both dog prints are darling and the owl tote is beautiful!

  20. Lindsay says:

I take my coffee with whole milk, and I really hope I win!

  21. Amy says:

I loved this idea and it gave me inspiration to not only work on kids clothes but to do little bits in other parts of my life. You can always do something if you know that it will only be an hour of your time. Thanks for doing this.

  22. Varenia says:

Oh, Meg, I wanted to thank you so much for hosting this challenge! Although I have participated projects have taken me waaaay longer than anticipated, so hopefully I’ll have more to show for it next week! I’d love to do this again!

  23. suzanne says:

after seeing all the creations this past week I am inspired to sew more kids clothes- thanks!

  24. Eerika says:

It’s been fun to follow your challenge week, and it’s been nice to see that it’s completely possible to make so many wonderful things in such a short time.

My favourite piece from Junecraft’s shop is, well, everything! But having to pick just the one thing, I think the elephant plushies are especially brilliant.

And finally, I take my coffee as tea, since I don’t actually drink coffee at all. My tea I like with honey and warm milk. :)

  25. Wendy says:

Cute shirt, never mind the buttons and the iron ; ) You do great work and it is always a pleasure to see what you are doing.

So as far as my participation this week, yes I participated but haven’t posted any pics yet. I was able to complete nearly 20 items for my kids but still have about 12 more to go… the more kids you have the more clothes to make lol. I only wish that I could have made cuter items but alas, this week was about what the kids need and pjs, pants, skirts and curtains were on the agenda..

Favorite item from Junecraft’s shop? I don’t know that I can pick, everything is wonderful!

I take my coffe cold with a little creme and sugar (cold lasts longer when you’re on the run and need caffiene all day ; )
