curtains

April 25th, 2011

I need a little help picking out material for curtains. Sadly this is the story of my life, which is why all the curtains in my house are white. I can not commit to a fabric. Ridiculous. The kids’ room is too white for white curtains. And they go to bed before it’s dark out these days, so they need a little light blockage action if they are ever going to get to sleep. Here are the windows (sorry one is a before picture, the other is a during): window one, window two. The fabrics I’m thinking about are pictured above, they are:

  1. nani iro painting muji canvas
  2. joel dewberry herringbone
  3. nani iro saaaa saaa (it looks like I randomly typed some letters, but that’s really what it’s called)
  4. alexander henry pirate grid

I want something dark blue and something hand drawn-ish.  So vote away! Tell me what to do. My kids will never sleep if you don’t tell me which to get. Really. And if you have any other suggestions, I love to hear them.

This is all a part of me redoing my kids room and you helping. The posts about the process so far are Before and During.

Number 1 for sure! It’s beautiful and will really help block the light.

  2. Rebecca Brown says:

I love the Joel Dewberry. It’s bold but not in your face and it will add some nice texture to the room. I am sure, however, that which ever you choose will be perfect!

    number 1 or 4

    Tone

ok, so I love #s 1 & 2, but have you thought about this new one from Ikea? I’m thinking about using it in our living room, but as of now my husband is sooo not on board, ha ha! Maybe you’ll enjoy it for me? http://www.ikea.com/de/de/catalog/products/20198175

Can’t wait to see the finished version of whatever you decide to use!

  5. June S says:

Can I have 2 votes? I really love #1 and #2… the bottom two are two straightlaced for a kids’ room, for me anyway! Love #1 especially…

  6. Whitney says:

LOVE number two – I’ve been staring at it online.

  7. Anna says:

I like #1. It kind of looks like clouds so it would look great with the cloudy bed!

  8. Melissa Nootz says:

I’m with Anna about #1 being cloud-like, if you’re feeling into the cloud/sky theme. #3 is sort of reminiscent of rain to me.

  9. Peggy says:

I love number 1 but number 4 is a close runner-up! Have you thought of making your own using a painters cloth and acrylic or fabric paint? With your talents I think you would do a wonderful job!!

I was thinking of that, but that is part of the problem. I start looking at fabric, then I think I’ll make my own, then I think I’ll learn silk screening, then I give up learning, then I learn to like having no curtains at all…

  10. Christine says:

Number 1. Looks like clouds and the blue is gorgeous.

  11. Cate says:

no contest, number 1 all the way!

  12. Lia says:

I love #2. It is clean and playful at the same time.

  13. shelly says:

    Nani Iro…always.

  14. Beth says:

Number one for sure…its so ethereal and bold at the same time. Love it.

  15. Andrea Heinz says:

number 1 is my fave and number 3 but I think number 1 would love beautiful with light streaming through

  16. Liv Dueck says:

I’d go with #2. It looks great for both interest and light blockage.

  17. JOEL DEWBERRY!!!!!!!!!

  18. Jacqui says:

Can’t have the kids all sleepless so I vote for #1 because I love Nani Iro, but the herringbone at #2 comes a close second.

  19. mixette says:

Like all of them as fabric, but #3 would look great as curtains (with lots of fullness!).

  20. Herewegoagain says:

Pirate grid. I think it’s the only one that will work with white walls. The first two are too contrasty and the decor would be all about the curtains. No. 3 might work hung horizontally.

  21. krista says:

Oh, I love love love that Nani Iro stripe. I like the other one too. They are so gorgeous. But shoot, won’t that cost a fortune? Not that you mention budget or that it might even be a consideration, but those are fabrics I can barely bring myself to buy a yard of! If the cost isn’t an issue though, pick one of those!

Second choice would be the herringbone. One of my favorite fabrics! I don’t know if you have any of the Alexander Henry, but it’s sort of country blue in person, and the base color is more off-white than I thought when I originally ordered it. So I’m just not a fan of that fabric so much.

    • meg says:

krista-I bought some naomi ito fabric last year because I thought, I spend money on crappy fabrics that I only half like and I never grow to really like them, so really I’m just pissing my money away. I should piss my money away on fabrics I love! So I saved up an got a yard and a half and I love it.
Good to know about the country blue! that doesn’t sound good at all.

      • krista says:

that’s definitely a good thing to do. Sometimes I think I should do the same, spend $50 on something really decadent and lovely instead of buying half yards of this and that. I can’t wait to see what you pick and how the room turns out! I love how it’s going so far.

  22. Rachel says:

Number 2 is great and I think a good fit for a window–in terms of pattern and dark colour. I also love #3–any thoughts about combining them? Shade in #2 and curtains in #3?

  23. Jesse says:

Joel Dewberry’s herringbone (#2) all the way. It’s crisp, beautiful blue, will look great with white walls. I love it. also – totally relate on choosing fabric for curtains – it just seems like such a lot of fabric in a room doesn’t it, so a real commitment. they will look great!
