small fry skinny jeans on elsie marley

Today the Small Fry Skinny Jean pattern tour is stopping here at elsie marley. I didn’t make hot pink pants or harlequin pants or floral skinnies for the tour. I just made plain old gray pants. Well they might look like plain old gray pants, but to me they are a bit of a masterpiece.

I think I’ve made my fair share of pants at this point, but I learned so many new things making these pants! I sewed belt loops for the first time, I made a little coin pocket (you know that little tiny pocket on your jeans), and a full on half fly.

kcwc fall 2011: day five

orange pants with blue piping

These are a little over the top to be sure. But so are four year old boys. The patterns is from Happy Homemade vol. 5 modified it a bit, okay a lot. I stole the pocket pattern from a different project in the book and I threw piping in all over the place. The back pockets are my favorite.

I also totally wussed out on the zipper fly and just make a fake fly, that got all janky anyway. Being afraid of putting in a zipper is ridiculous, I mean a zipper isn’t going to kill me or anything. Whatever, here they are: crazy ass orange tight pants with bright blue piping.

He rocked them.

And here are today’s highlights from the flickr group (they are all a little muted today, maybe the rain is affecting me):

kcwc fall clothes inspiration and tutorials

I’m going to post a round up each day this week of inspiring handmade clothes and tutorials for fall and winter things too. The schedule should go something like this:

  • monday: fall and winter clothes
  • tuesday: coats, hoodies, sweaters
  • wednesday: warm things for baby
  • thursday: hats, mittens, scarves
  • friday: halloween costumes

If you have a tutorial that you particularly love and it fits (pretty much) into one of the categories above you can email me (elsiemarleyblog@gmail.com) and I can try to fit it in the post or you can save it and put it in the comments on the day of the post-subject it fits under. Get it? I’m trying to keep it so we can all use these inspiration and tutorial posts as reference next week when it’s so late we have to choose between thinking and sewing. So tell us all the awesome clothes tutorials you know in the comments and email me the rest. And if you haven’t signed up yet, what are you waiting for?
