board shorts in green gingham

Just some simple board shorts today. Though now that I look at them, they look more like old timey golfing slacks. Am I subconsciously trying to get my son on the course before he’s even held a golf club? He can rock the style without playing the game, right?

The pattern is from Happy Homemade vol. 2 again. Lots more of them cut out and ready to sew up, too. I told you you were going to get sick of this pattern. It’s got simple, easy to put together slash pockets and a totally useless, but awesome fake fly. Seriously, I love the fake fly. Makes the pants look a little more pulled together, a little less becky homecky.

kcwc day four

1.garden party frock 2. sun hat 3. skirt that swings 4. smocked sundress

oops! I realized as I was putting this collection up that it’s all girl clothes today, but there are some fantastic boy clothes in the flickr mix too. Like this slammin red parachute jacket and these stylish jeans and this adorable baby sweater. I find that boys are a bit harder to sew for the in the summer. Maybe it’s because all those easy, summery dresses are calling to me to sew them up. What about you? Are you sewing frilly dresses or twenty pairs of boy shorts?

  1. gah! so much awesomeness this week. I want that gingham sundress for myself. and your gingham shorts for my boy.

definitely all boy sewing this week–for some reason I will gift knit girl things for other folks but I am rarely motivated to gift sew for girls. hmm.

Boys (linen) pants and shirts! The fabric choice for those awesome golf shorts got me all nostalgic and happy. It is the precise fabric of my parents kitchen cafe curtains, which they had for like, 20 years. Nice.

skirts! shorts! maybe a dress or two if i have time on the weekend.
and i totally dig the golfer look. those shorts are awesome.

It’s shorts, pants, and muscle tees for me … I only have one little boy … but I did just find out that my friend is having a girl so I’m hoping to add a tiny dress into the mix. I’m diggin’ the retro golfer look!

  5. Katie says:

I think the shorts look great, and I would wear the gingham dress with the cute yellow strap.

  6. Annika says:

Yeah, my daughter is getting four new dresses and my son got one new vest. Oops.

  7. I’m all about the boy shorts, but having two sons and no daughters makes that fairly inevitable. Today’s (finally finished and blogged) project is quick change trousers, and I rather love them :)

  8. Svenna says:

Oh I love all those dresses people make, they are just too sweet. I keep saying in comments, must make sure next baby is a girl. :)
But I’m not complaining, I just love making boys pants. Made a shirt today, which was also good fun, but I think tomorrow will be back to shorts…

So far this week, I’ve made 3 Music Lesson skirts from Oliver + S for my 9 year old. Sketchbook shorts for 6 year old son are on the cutting table as i type. I love easy skirts and dresses for summer. Boys are limited, but I can make lots of cool shorts for summer activities and church without breaking the bank! And they look better than what I’m seeing from the stores these days.

Becky Homecky…our favorite saying around here. Married to a chef it’s the term he uses when I try to cook!

Days 1-3 I made 2 dresses and 1 Pillowcase Top and Pants. Day 4 my son finally recieved something other than pj pants off the sewing machine. To top them off I added a quick tie shirt to match. If all goes as planned I will be back on the girl band wagon for the rest of the week. I am really loving and inspired by your boy sewing!!! I think I am going to pick up the books you have recomended, I have a really hard time finding boy pants and shorts that are simple, yet cute!!! Thanks!

That are cool shorts! Love that fabric. In France where I live that is called vichy and you can bough it in almost every color.
And what a nice surprize that you selected my photo of my daughter in her skirt-that-swings!

  13. Roser says:

I’m doing short pants and dresses, for my daughter and for the cousins… But I haven’t enought time! The good think is finally I’m doing what I had in mind, maybe not everyday but more constantly I was before…

  14. I love the gingham shorts! I have yet again only managed one pair of shorts this week. I made a big mistake at the beginning…intending to make 2 pairs, I cut all the pattern shapes from 4 pieces of cloth in two patterns all facing the same way and it all went pear shaped from there as I now have to make 4 pairs! I’ll post a pic as soon as I get a chance. But I showed them to my son the next day and he told me flatly that he didn’t like them! (they are a bit bright) If I ever manage to get him in them, I’ll post to flickr!

just ordered happy homemade vol. 2, and can. not. wait to dig in. i’ve a boy who is suddenly picky about what he wears (what???), and i’m thinking getting him on board with the process is the only way through.

thank you, btw, for your recent tweet. my entire week of stitches has been upside down and backwords.
