mud pie kitchen

August 4th, 2010

I was so taken with this mud pie kitchen that I found on the crafty crow, that we went right outside and made one of our own.  I moved some little tables around and the kids wondered around the yard gathering decorations, then we dug up some dirt from the garden and went to work. The kids insisted on wearing aprons and washing their hands before they started.

There go the cupcake into the oven. They were very serious about the whole affair–my son even made me set the timer.

When they were done with their cakes they went on to other things, but I might do a little rearranging in the new kitchen and keep it up for the rest of the summer.

Love this! I don’t think my kids have ever derived more satisfaction from a toy, than they did this bucket of mud… http://www.flickr.com/photos/49544525@N06/4834172889/

Love this idea. I ate some of my mud pie when I was little–and got intestinal worms from it! Yup. So, beware the eating of those creations no matter how yummy they may look. (luckily a little pill from the doctor took care of the prob–but apparently the pill was so big my mum told me she had to bribe me with a Hershey Bar to get me to take it)

I saw that mudpie kitchen and was wondering where I could get some of those wonderful boxes to make one, when I realized we already have one on our porch. We actually found a plastic kitchen that someone had left on the curb, and keep it on our porch, and they have bug habitats and all sorts of fun things out there. Perhaps all we need are some nice pots and pans for their mudpies.

Sometimes we just make do with what we have, we don’t have to make everything perfectly fit our aesthetic, right?

This idea is so fabulous. I saw it over at the crafty crow too and we will be doing it this weekend.
I hope our mud cake comes out half as lovely as yours.

Oh, good grief, how did I ever forget about mud pies? I must have passed two years of my childhood, up to my elbows in mud and such. Needed this reminder, thx.

I loved playing “mud kitchen” when I was a little girl.
When I saw your lovely pictures with these nice accessories for “cooking” I was remembering my childhood. What a different thing: childhood in the seventies compared to nowadays. Never never never my mom took photos of me playing in the playground / mud / .. I am happy of being a mom in 2010! YOu seem to be too ;-)
    Thanks for inspiration!
