kids clothes week challenge: day 1

May 10th, 2010

Go!

The first day of the challenge is here! I did sneak down last night to start my first project and it looks like a lot of people have already finished some fantastic projects. But for the most part everything is just in piles. My hour to sew doesn’t come until evening, so until then I can just click around the over 200 blogs that are participating and see what you are making. Here is my list for the week.

for the girl

  • 2 shorts
  • 2 dresses (1 done, 1 started)
  • 1 tank top
  • leggings
  • peasant top

for the boy

  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 1 pair of pants
  • 1 short sleeve shirt
  • 1 muscle shirt

for the baby

  • 1 romper (started)
  • 2 long sleeve shirts
  • 2 pairs of pants

There is so much more I want to make, which is just ridiculous, but these are the things they actually need for summer. I don’t know if I can pull it off, but the point is just to start, right? What is on your list?

My list consists of sundresses and skirts. I think I’ll try to whip up some shorts and shirts for balance too. If I’m lucky they might get some new pj’s. Game on!

I blogged about my list the other day, since I have no sewing skills what so ever I chose very simple projects for this week. Tonight I’m starting with some bandana pants (no cutting or patterns). Right after i finish my 5 mile walk, I’m delaying by reading this post :) Wish me luck … on all of it.

Wow that’s a great list! I should probably make a list, but I’m usually more of a look-at-my-fabrics-and-decide-which-one-I-want-to-use-today kind of a girl! I loosely know that I want to make a top and bottom set for each of my three and I hope to make more than that. I also want to sew a new backpack for my daughter as she no longer needs the big nappy bag anymore, technically not clothing but will end up containing a spare outfit.

  4. i made ‘mommy and me’ matching skirts for mother’s day (i started a day early on the challenge..is that okay?). here’s the link to mine: http://oldgeorgiahouse.com/?p=1944

I’m so excited that I’m actually going to do this. I didn’t put my name on the list because I wasn’t sure if I was going to pull it off but I’m sure willing to try! This challenge was just the push I needed to get in there and start sewing again!

i just drafted a top for jane and sewed it up in 1.5 hours! woot! if only she were awake to try it on….
if it does fit, then kate will get one too. my list is long and my time is short so i’m just going to attack it day by day. we’ll see what happens.

  7. That is quite a list! I’m finding this very exciting. I have started on a top for my oldest daughter, only cutting got done today, but tomorrow afternoon I will be ready to sew. Looking forward to seeing great projects form everyone!

  8. Holly says:

You are fearless, Meg. I still do not have enough gumption to sew clothing…I fear my improvisational style of sewing will not suit me well when making clothing which I imagine requires discipline…godspeed to you though.

  9. Bandy says:

Well, I just found out about this but I am totally on board! Oh man! I have been on a sewing spree lately and have been having fun. This morning I sewed a skirt for me and 2 dresses for my little girl! Holy COW!

  10. Two tops down for me, and a few pairs of pants to go – maybe some more tops, we’ll see…

I better head to Flickr to upload some pictures!

A dress and bloomers for my girl (which I finished tonight, working on pictures now)

Two outfits (tee shirts and pants) for boy number 3

Another dress and bloomers in a different style

    pillowcase dress

and one more dress to go under the pinafore I just finished knitting

That’s the drastically simplified list. The other list, the one I keep adding to in my mind? That one’s endless.

  12. britt says:

2 tank tops (muscle shirts, is what the boys prefer they be called.)
1 pair of shorts from a guys shirt (saw a tut, want to try)
    1 embellished dress shirt
that’s it. not overly ambiciosa but my machine is broken. so i don’t think i will get as much done as i wanted.

  13. Melissa Q. says:

Man! I’m so excited. My list is not that long, I’m going for the feeling of success. Can’t wait to sew tonight, last night was cutting.

  14. heather says:

wow as always Iam very impressed if I finish one skirt for my little one this week I will be happy, but I have been sewing, mostly costumes for an up coming play for my oldest daughter. she may look funny this summer wearing a tree costume.

I am a slow sewer, but I have to be brave, this is my list:

Im working towards a kids range for a local shop here in melbourne so I was thinking id do three different styles in size one to six. Boys vests (started the week earlier leading up to this challenge), girls tunics (started ahead of time but cant remember the day) and thirdly some jackets or pants. Im being hopeful that I get close.
