I find myself thinking about the felted rocks a lot. We had some homemade play dough that was just the right color for stones. I made several and stacked them. Do you do that with yours? We live near some cliffs where people artistically stack stones to unnatural heights. It's fun and temporary. Anyhoo...

Your stones look great.
"swearing up a storm" that made me smile, I have had similar frustrations in the past.

Wanted to thank you for organising the mobile swap, I was one day late posting but my piece is now winging it's way over the ocean. I have found it really hard to make things since I got sick but I pledged to do one swap ever year to mark when I started blogging (20 Feb 2006) and your was right on the day, but also a fun swap and I feel like I have finally achieved something creatively. I even made a paper brooch to match the mobile.

I hope my efforts are ok. Actually, I could say I swore up a storm doing this too (made 5 mobiles but only one, the simplest, didn't end up in the trash). But there were smiles too, when the rain stopped and I could take a few photo's.

I'm also enjoying seeing your other blog posts, your a very creative woman!

they rock! (oh, I am so funny!)

You can indeed felt a proper rock (well, smooth pebble) - you layer up thin layers of felted roving, smoothing as you go - and alternating the way the fibres lay each time (so horizontal one time, vertical the next). Does that make sense? Probably not :)

Oh my goodness, I looove those! And the diggers are awesome! What a great idea to make some rocks to go with them. I've been wanting to try playing with some wool roving, it looks like so much fun.

i love them...and I think even though that white stripe was horrible, it is so lovely.
{& maybe instead of white something like a beige, something that is not bleached, but still gives that great 'natural ' color variation}

they are 100% felt, but I think a felted rock would make a very nice paperweight (I feel like I saw this somewhere...?).

I was wondering the same thing as abbyjane - are there real rocks beneath that wooly surface? Yes or no, they're great. And thanks for the heads-up about the white wool.

Are they felted over real rocks or are they all felt through and through? Either way, they are lovely, especially the gray one.
