the pretty good

I’m over at a happy stitch today for her new series fail friday. I was so happy that Melissa asked me to contribute, because crafty/sewing blogs really need to talk about mistakes more. The pretty pictures are nice, but everybody screws up sometimes! Failures are hard to own up to, but honestly they are a lot more interesting and a hell of a lot funnier than perfectly perfect projects all the time. So go check out my post about my kcwc double fail!

That small stripe looks super cute from the front. But I’ll agree with you that the back is pretty messed up. And I too failed at a 90-minute shirt: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nowwerecookiejenny/7812171838/in/photostream

Oh thank you! I clicked through and yep, the back of that shirt is a bit funky! Funny how kids don’t care at all though, it’s just the blog that never gets to see it! My 90 minute shirt fail started with cutting out the neckline – so it was going to be a ‘normal’ t-shirt instead, until I cut up the centre front too… and my theoretical rescue is still sitting in the corner of the sewing table, well after the end of KCWC. Just waiting till I accept it’s really for the scrap/applique/mending bin.

  7. Totally agree, when you read all these interesting creative blogs you get to thinking that these people are perfect, churning out amazing things every time. When your churning out nothing but flops! Nice to see a flop from you, although the front of that shirt looks great with the shoulder detail!

Thanks for this, I’ve had some righteous sewing fails. It’s good to honor that, learn from it or sometimes just walk away!

Such a great guest post!! I totally laughed out loud and it’s so refreshing to see the fails because man, it’s part of creating. I was especially tickled by how your son loves it – so sweet and funny. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cut things out the wrong way or traced the wrong pattern piece…
