I am determined to crochet a snowflake this year. Preferably more than one, but after the first hot mess I made, I would settle for just one. I used a Martha Stewart pattern and it was actually quite clear, but my thread was too thin and I couldn’t work with it at all. These linen ones make me want to try again:

Crocheted snowflakes just look so lovely hanging in a window…

Crochet totally beats out knitting when it comes to making snowflakes (oh I’m totally keeping score). Most of the time crocheters get the short end of the stick (and the shaft at yarn stores—seriously what is the deal?), but those beautiful, delicate snowflakes are all crocheted.

Of course crochet can’t stay classy for very long, oh well.

  1. Touche. Crochet wins for snowflakes. Also for Great Big Things. Like blankets. And, of course, toilet seat covers. Touche.

  2. I forgot to ask – can you crochet in Japanese?!? If so, hat’s off to you. I just started knitting in French.

kind of. I’ve got a half done sweater that will fit none of my children when it’s done, so yeah, kind of.

this post reminds me so much of my grandmother. She crocheted so many beautiful snowflakes, and armchair covers and toilet roll covers and…. I miss her.

I actually did this last winter after being on my “wish to do” list for at least 10 years. I highly recommend it. It took me a few fails before I got the hang of it. They aren’t perfect, but I love them.

I really really really want to crochet (yarn bomb) the double seat on my scooter, mostly because my husband would be horrified and almost die from acute embarrassment. But I wear a pink helmet (was clearanced because not many have the ba…guts to wear them, and I love a good deal!) and a pink helmet really calls for some crochet, ya know?

Love the snowflakes, and have some patterns saved, but it may be for next year!

I love crocheting, it wins every time in my eyes (except when on the toilet…)

I love crocheted snowflakes! For the last 5 or so years, I have thought I need to learn to crochet if only to make a few. Maybe this year will be the year. We are spending a week and a half with my family in Iowa and this could be a great activity for my mom and me.

  8. Meg says:

My kids could not stop exclaiming…a Christmas toilet! and then laughing.

  9. those are a beauty hanging from the window, and I, reluctantly, admit they beat out knitting

Love the snowflakes!! I’ll have to try them at some point (going on my to-do list). I won’t show my girls the Christmas toilet… They might want one! ;-)

  11. I’ve got a couple of booklets of crochet snowflake patterns inherited from my grandmother-in-law – I keep meaning to attempt one. Maybe this will be the year.

  12. Sascha says:

Crochet… something I seriously need to learn. Not in French or Japanese though, thankyouverymuch!

  13. lindsay says:

Very beautiful! Thanks for the inspiration- I want to make that scarf! And it seems only fitting that toilet paper comes out the stove top hat.

  14. Lovely to find you here, Elsie. Just discovered you and happened upon the snowflakes. I have some we hang on our tree each year. Lovely they are. And extra special. Made by my grandmother. So, these crocheted snowflakes brought a little smile to my heart. I will always have extra love for crocheting because of her.

  15. Lisa says:

Snowflakes are one of two reasons I wish I could crochet – the other is because I would love to make a granny square quilt. But, thankfully I was able to convince my crocheting grandma to stop making afghans for a bit to make some snowflakes for me. Because, yes! They are so beautiful…

  16. Thank you for sharing my snowflakes!
    I will post a diagram-pattern soon!

I think that I really, really need a snowman toilet cozy.

  18. I seriously have this butt ugly santa toilet seat cover that I just keep putting on because it makes me laugh SO hard EVERY year. My guest come over and tell me how ugly my toilet seat cover is. I love it!

  19. Your paper Christmas Tree ornament inspired an activity in my 2011 Activity Advent Countdown. I linked to it. Thanks for inspiring so many moms like me. =)
